Bio

Dr. McKenna is a specialist in Internal Medicine practicing in North Bay, Ontario. Dr. McKenna completed her medical doctorate at the University of Western Ontario Schulich School of Medicine, where she was awarded the gold medal for having the highest overall standing in her graduating medical class. It was there she met her husband, Dr. Luke Harris, who is practicing Otolaryngology in North Bay.

She then pursued a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto, completing her training in 2011-2012 as Chief Medical Resident at St. Michael's Hospital. She successfully completed her Internal Medicine specialty examinations in Canada and the United States in 2012. Dr. McKenna worked as a clinical associate at St. Michael's until 2013, when she moved with her family to North Bay.

Dr. McKenna has a passion for medical education and welcomes medical students and residents to her clinic. She is an Assistant Professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and an active contributor to curriculum in Internal Medicine. Learners from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine are prioritized for placement.

Community Involvement:

  • Dr. McKenna is a passionate advocate for health and wellness in North Bay. She works collaboratively with community partners such as the North Bay Indigenous Hub in regular consultation, and is a strong supporter of the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre Prenatal program.
  • Health and wellness of pregnant women and their families is a priority - stay tuned for new partnerships with the YMCA being announced in 2025!

Awards:

  • Dr. McKenna has won many awards for teaching (including “Best Community Internal Medicine teacher” voted on by NOSM students for over 6 years), and the Jean Rochefort award for teaching at NBRHC in 2017.
  • She is proudest of her “Golden Heart” awards - received in recognition of excellent patient care at NBRHC.
